Sachin Tendulkar was a part of the 2011 Cricket World Cup winning Indian team in the later part of his career, his first such win in six World Cup appearances for India. Maharashtra govt,. has recommended the name of little master Sachin Tendulkar for the country’s highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna. Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan announced this in the state assembly on Wednesday.

Prithviraj Chavan said, We felicitated both players from the state after the World Cup. From that time plans were on to recommend the name of the son of the soil, the son of Maharashtra for the Bharat Ratna for his outstanding achievements in cricket and for being a role model to the younger generation of this country.

The name of Sachin Tendulkar for the highest civilian award has been doing the rounds ever since India won the World Cup in 2011 after 28 long years.

BCCI vice president Rajiv Shukla said, the cricket icon should be honoured with the country`s highest civilian award. There is a lot more cricket left in him. He should get the highest civilian award.

With the Government changing rules to make sportspersons eligible for the Bharat Ratna, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has passed a resolution to support the demand for bestowing the country’s highest civilian honour on champion batsman Sachin Tendulkar.

“A resolution was passed at our Managing Committee meeting to back Tendulkar for Bharat Ratna. Our Joint Secretaries (Nitin Dalal and P V Shetty) will now be writing to Maharashtra Government requesting it to take it up with the Central Government,” said MCA Vice-President Ratnakar Shetty.

Describing Sachin Tendulkar as worthy recipient of the Bharat Ratna award, sportspersons from different disciplines lend their voice to confer the iconic batsman with the country’s highest civilian honour.

“It is the government that has to decide whether he (Tendulkar) should be given the award or not but as far as I am concerned, he definitely deserves the accolades. He has made every Indian proud,” said ace shooter and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Gagan Narang.

Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar feels blessed to have a ‘son’ like Sachin Tendulkar and wants the batting sensation to carry on his innings for many more years and win the Bharat Ratna.

Congratulating Sachin on his hitting his 50th test century, his avid fan says her blessings are always with the ‘little master’.

Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan today said that Sachin Tendulkar was already a ‘Bharat Ratna’ to the people of the country going by his achievements in the cricketing world.

“Tendulkar is already a ‘Bharat Ratna’ going by the admiration he has got from all Indians for his achievements in the cricket field,” he told reporters in reply to a question whether it was time the government to confer the highest civilian honour to the legendary cricketer.
