Yuvraj Singh said, ”In people’s mind (if there is) cancer, he/she will die and won’t recover. But I think (one should go) door-to-door, talk to the people and make them aware about the check-up. Spread the message among your friends of the free detection centre”.

Launching YouWeCan Cancer Screening initiative, Yuvraj emphasised on the importance of early detection to control the menace of cancer.

“People are aware about my battle with cancer and my resolve to win it, and live a normal life like all. I am very happy to see the initiative reaching out to Jharkhand in a very short span of time”.

Stating that he had the firm belief that “You & We together can fight cancer”, Yuvraj said he would be extremely happy if this initiative of cancer screening makes a difference to people and save lives.

To a query whether he has any plans of treating the poor free of cost, Yuvraj said they would decide on it in future, but now it was only detection.

Apollo Gleneagles Cancer Hospital has joined hands with YouWeCan founded by Yuvraj to organise mass cancer screening programmes across various locations in the eastern region.

The Pune Warriors player is here to play against Kolkata Knight Riders in an IPL match on Wednesday.

Umesh Yadav, who is an important member of the Daredevils set-up took a day off from the team’s training schedule in Bangalore to fly back home for the engagement. Umash Yadav will marry Tania on May 29 once the IPL gets over.

Umesh Yadav said after the engagement ceremony: ”We met in Delhi and then our friendship grew… and then I proposed her. We decided to get married after a year’s courtship and our families agreed”.

While one expects ‘Lady Luck’ to help him perform better in IPL, Umesh and Tania definitely wouldn’t mind a ‘Cricket Honeymoon’ if the pacer gets selected for the Champions Trophy in England which is slated to be held just after the IPL.

Former boxer Ngangom Dingko Singh and rower Bajrang Lal Takhar received the country’s fourth highest civilian honour, the Padma Shri.

Rahul Dravid told reporters on receiving the award: ”It was a great feeling. Surprisingly, it worked out all fine for me. Tomorrow, I am playing our IPL match in New Delhi and today I got this award. I would have gone anyway to receive this award. I’m happy my family is here besides me”.

The funds raised from the match went to the Magic Bus Organisation, which works for charity for underprivileged children. Virat Kohli launched the team for his foundation ‘All Heart Football Club’ against the All Stars Football Club.

With ‘RK’ emblazoned on his back and the loudest cheers from the crowd every time he had the ball, the ‘Barfi’ star Ranbir Kapoor stole the show.

He dribbled past defenders at ease, outpaced the cricketers, made numerous attempts at goal and capped off his night with a blistering strike from the edge of the penalty box. The only blip was a missed penalty, which however he made up for by winning another one for his team.

Earlier, the cricketers dressed in red and black, showed their prowess with the ball at their feat by smashing three goals in the first half.

They started off in an aggressive fashion with India cricket captain MS Dhoni making a pin-point cross in the box from the right wing which was duly put at the back of the net by Tanmoy Mishra giving the ‘All Heart’ team the lead in the second minute of the game.

Though all for charity, the seriousness out on the field was evident with Yuvraj Singh shouting at every referee call against him, grimacing at every miss by his teammates.

Egged on by over 10,000 cheering crowd, the All Stars coached by former footballer Bhaichung Bhutia, equalised in the 10th minute with Shabbir Ahluwalia scoring the goal.

It was all Manoj Tiwary show after that with the Bengal cricketer showing his footballing skills with two neatly scored goals to give the All Heart team a 3-1 lead. Tiwary was later adjudged the Man of Match for his brilliant show. Playing in humid conditions, the All Stars team managed to give a tough fight even though they went 4-1 down immediately after the resumption of play in the second half.

It was a Ranbir Kapoor show after that. He easily dodged and moved past Zaheer Khan on several occasions. He even tried a back flick which almost gave the All Stars a second goal. But it came nonetheless moments later, when ‘RK’ was tripped in the box which was duly put away.

Ten minutes into the second half, Dino Morea was tripped in the box, but Ranbir’s lame shot from the resultant penalty was easily saved by All Heart goalkeeper Ishant Sharma. But Ranbir was not to be denied a few minutes later, when he picked up a pass from Marc Robinson and smashed a thundering strike right into the top corner to make the scoreline 4-3.

The All Heart team coached by footballer Sunil Chhetri, managed to survive the nervy moments and emerge victorious but not before getting a real scare from their opponents.

All Stars captain Abhishek Bachchan said after the match: “The Indian cricketers are in a habit of winning matches with a scoreline of 4-0. We were scared we would get the same treatment, but all credit to our team especially Ranbir for having fought so brilliantly against the cricketers”

Talking about the team composition, vice-captain Ranbir, who was disappointed at having missed the penalty, said they had been practising for over six months now for the match.

“Everyone who was regularly practising with us today, was given a chance to play. There is nothing to be ashamed of in losing 4-3 and it was an honour to step up and compete against the mighty cricketers”.

Talking about the prospect of arranging a revenge match, Abhishek said a few games were in the pipeline with talks doing the rounds that the two teams will square up again in Sikkim for Bhaichung Bhutia’a foundation.

Sachin Tendulkar, well-known for his love for F1 and fancy cars, and virat Kohli took to the track in instructor-driven sportscars.

The BIC official told reporters: ”They took us all by surprise. But it was nice to see them spending so much time at the circuit. Most of them had come here during the Indian Grand Prix, but it was the first time they got a feel of the track. They not only drove, they stopped at every turn and understood the track. They also spent time in the race control room”.

MS Dhoni, however, got it slightly wrong by getting a bulky bike.

The official added: ‘Dhoni said to me he could not manoeuvre it as well as he could have with a sportsbike. Next time, he said he would get one of his many sportsbikes and keep it here. His passion for bikes was very much evident”.

The official added that Dhoni expressed his desire to be at BIC during the inaugural India-round of the Superbike World Championship (WSBK) in November. The skipper owns a team called Mahi Racing which competes in the World Supersport Championship, a support series to WSBK.

Bangladesh tour of Sri Lanka 2013 (Dhaka Bank Series 2013) is scheduled to begin on Friday, 8th March 2013 in Sri Lanka. Bangladesh cricket team will tour Sri Lanka from 3rd to 31st March 2013. The tour will consist of two Tests, three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and a Twenty20 International (T20). The first Test begins in Galle on Friday, with the two-Test series followed by three one-day internationals and a Twenty20 international.

Umme Ahmed Shishir is doing software engineering from Minnesota University in United States and her family also lives in America.

Ricky Ponting said: ”I was a little bit embarrassed and wish it didn’t happen that way, but it was an amazing gesture by Graeme and the South African team. I’ve been lucky to play as many Tests as I have and cherished every moment, it was always going to end at some stage I guess”.

Michael Clarke and Mike Hussey briefly steadied the Australian ship with a 58-run stand for the fifth wicket, before both fell in quick succession just before tea as the Proteas turned the screw. Clarke was stumped from the bowling of Peterson (3-127) for 44, while Hussey became the 13th Australian to pass 6,000 Test runs before being caught behind for 26 from the bowling of Dale Steyn (3-72).

Virat Kohli will be presented the Polly Umrigar Award, for being India’s top international cricketer of 2011-12. The award comprises a trophy and cheque for `. 5 lakhs. The previous winners of the award are Sachin Tendulkar (2006-07 and 2009-10), Virender Sehwag (2007-08), Gautam Gambhir (2008-09) and Rahul Dravid (2010-11).

VVS Laxman, who announced his retirement from international cricket in August 2012, will be felicitated at the ceremony. Sachin Tendulkar will also be honoured for completing a century of international centuries.

Another feature of the ceremony will be the posthumous felicitation of seven legends of Indian cricket – Vijay Merchant, Vijay Manjrekar, Dattu Phadkar, Vinoo Mankad, Ghulam Ahmed, M.L. Jaisimha and Dilip Sardesai. The next-of-kin of each of these individuals will receive a trophy and cheque for `. 15 lakhs.

The Col. C.K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Sunil Gavaskar, former India captain. The award comprises a trophy, citation and cheque for `. 25 lakhs.

Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard had announced that the iconic Indian cricketer would be conferred the membership of the Order of Australia during her visit to India last month. Sachin will become only the second Indian after former Attorney General Soli Sorabjee to get the honour.
Mr Sorabjee was made an Honorary Member of the Order of Australia (AM) “for service to Australia-India bilateral legal relations” in 2006.

Ms. Gillard had told reporters, ”Cricket is of course a great bond between Australia and India. We are both cricket-mad nations. I am very pleased that we are going to confer on Sachin Tendulkar, membership of the order of Australia (AM)”.

“This is a very special honour very rarely awarded to someone who is not an Australian citizen or an Australian national. The award will be conferred on him by cabinet Minister Simon Crean when he visits India”.

It was the first world title for the West Indies since the 60-over World Cup triumph under Clive Lloyd in 1979, and handed Sri Lanka their fourth defeat in a major final since 2007. Spinner Sunil Narine grabbed three wickets for nine runs and Sammy took two as the hosts, who had excelled in the field in the first session, undid the good work with irresponsible batting in the second.

Mahela Jayawardene survived two dropped catches to top-score with 33, while tailender Nuwan Kulasekara hit 26 off 13 balls, including three fours and a six in the 16th over of seamer Ravi Rampaul. Sri Lanka’s unorthodox spinner Ajantha Mendis had taken four wickets for 12 runs as the West Indies collapsed once Chris Gayle was removed in the sixth over for only three runs.

Marlon Samuels was the only batsman to defy the spot-on Sri Lankan bowling, making 78 off 56 balls with the help of six sixes and three boundaries. His brilliant strokeplay helped the West Indies add 105 runs in the last 10 overs after they were reduced to 32-2 from the first 10. Sri Lanka lost opener Tillakaratne Dilshan in the second over before Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara added 42 for the second wicket.

Kumar Sangakkara holed out in the deep off Samuel Badree for 22, Angelo Mathews was bowled by Darren Sammy, Jayawardene was caught off a reverse sweep and Jeevan Mendis ran himself out. Sri Lanka had taken an early grip on the match by keeping the West Indies down to 14-2 in the first six powerplay overs after Johnson Charles had been dismissed off the fifth ball of the match.

The West Indies had to wait till the 17th delivery to score their first run with the bat and Gayle needed nine balls to get off the mark. The left-hander struggled for 16 deliveries to make three before he was trapped leg-before by Mendis in the sixth over.

West Indies, who had pummelled Australia in the semi-finals, showed the first signs of aggression as Dwayne Bravo pulled 19-year-old spinner Akila Dananjaya for a six over mid-wicket. Samuels responded by smashing three sixes in the next over of sling-arm fast bowler Lasith Malinga, two of them in succession over mid-wicket and extra-cover. Bravo helped Samuels add 59 runs for the third wicket when he was given out leg-before by Australian umpire Simon Taufel, even though replays showed the ball go off the bat on to the pad.

The 17th over, bowled by Malinga, produced 19 runs as Samuels smashed a boundary and two consecutive sixes to leave the frontline bowler with unflattering figures of 0-54 from his four overs.

Sri Lanka have now lost two successive 50-over World Cup finals in 2007 and 2011 and two World Twenty20 finals in 2009 and 2012.

The Room to Read works to One of the early fruits of this partnership, has been the development of local language cricket books to promote literacy, the first of which features local star Angelo Mathews.

The book titled, Little Angelo’s Big Day in Cricket, is available in both Sinhalese and Tamil and will be distributed to youngsters throughout Sri Lanka as part of the ICC World Twenty 20’s commitment to the local community.

In India, Virat Kohli has taken a stand as the brand ambassador for Room to Read and stars in a children’s book titled Virat’s Inning. The book will be published in Hindi and Telugu with the vision to inculcate the love of reading amongst the next generation of learners.

Room to Read’s ambition to promote literacy and girls’ education has resonated with many of cricket’s leading players and they have now been involved in awareness-raising activities during the tournament. Room to Read beneficiaries from the Dharmaloka Kanishta Vidyalaya in the Monaragala district were treated to a hands-on coaching session by Sri Lankan cricket team players such as Angelo Mathews, Lasith Malinga and Sangakara. This was group of 10 boys who are a part of the school cricket team and were chosen to participate in this unique interaction that involved batting, bowling and fielding practice.

MS Dhoni (captain), arrived in Sri Lanka for the ICC World T20 tournament. Having won the inaugural edition in 2007, the spirits looked up, especially being in familiar territory.

Gautam Gambhir (Opener) may have missed out in the only T20 against New Zealand ahead of the tournament in Sri Lanka. He however brings enormous potential to the team and will look to blast his way past, right up at the top.

Yuvraj Singh is another player with a lot of skill. He made his comeback after recovering from cancer, in the match against New Zealand. Brimming with confidence, he will play a crucial role in sending the ball across all parts of the ground.

Yuvraj is seen here with Rohit Sharma. Though off late Sharma’s fan following has dipped because of his dipping form, he played a crucial role in India’s title-winning campaign in 2007 and cannot be discounted.

Harbhajan Singh the World T20 provides the veteran spinner with the opportunity to show that he can still scalp wickets at will and punish batsmen for their faulty techniques.

Suresh Raina gets the traditional welcome on his arrival. He is seen by many as a T20 specialist. 

Manoj Tiwary has made a name for himself in the IPL. T20 is a format that favours his style and this player, on his day, can pack a punch with his bat to take his team through.

Virender Sehwag, recovering from a flu, is a well known ball-smasher whose style is tailor-made for T20.

And last and of course not the least. Virat Kohli will be the frontline man for the Indian team. He is in sublime form and will lead the batting during the course of the tournament. Here he is seen with spinner Piyush Chawla.

Rianna Ponting: The wife of Australian captain Ricky Ponting. She is not just a good-looking Wife but is one with brains. She holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Wollongong. Katrina Haddin: Katrina is Austrailian wicket-keeper, Brad Haddin’s wife. The beautiful woman shows that grace and style can exist at the same time. Also we all know that she is in ‘safe hands’!

I got to my hundred with a clip through square leg after a nervous period in the nineties. And it was a really brilliant win chasing 270 or something too.
