Murali Vijay century overpowers Delhi

Chennai Super Kings defeated Delhi Daredevils by 86 runs in the second qualifying match of the IPL 5 here on Friday as Vijay hit a unforgettable fastest century. Set a target of 223 runs, Delhi Daredevils never looked threatening.

David Warner and Virender Sehwag left early. And Mahela Jayawardene made 55 of 38 balls, but finally was bowled while playing a reverse sweep. The rest was mere formality as Delhi Daredevils were all out for 136 in the 17th over.

Murali Vijay said, I would first thank the people who kept faith in me and helped me with my game. I was batting well and just backed myself to play the big shots… I concentrated on hitting straight and tried to keep the basics simple. After the first six overs, the wicket was slowing down and that is when I decided that I will have stay on and play a long innings. I was lucky today… I’m really happy to share the dressing room with so many quality players and I’m learning everyday.

Murali Vijay was selected for 2010 ICC World T20. He fared poorly in India’s unsuccessful campaign averaging just below 15 and failing to provide good starts in all the matches.

Murali Vijay was one of the key performers for Chennai in the 3rd edition of IPL in 2010 when Chennai were crowned champions. His first century for Chennai Super Kings was in the third season of the IPL where he scored 127 runs of 56 balls against the Rajasthan Royals. He was awarded the Man of the Match.

In the same year, Murali Vijay had prolific run in the Champions League T20 held in South Africa. Vijay was the top scorer of the tournament with 294 runs. He was instrumental in Chennai winning the cup.
