Katich decision appalling, says Slater

THE outrage over Simon Katich‘s axing has reached levels not experienced since Steve Waugh was dumped from the one-day team almost a decade ago.

Cricket Australia has been forced to defend embattled chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch and dismissed as “a joke” claims that new captain Michael Clarke contributed to Katich’s demise.

Another axed former opening batsman, Michael Slater, wondered if the infamous Clarke-Katich dressing-room confrontation may have played its part before pointing the finger squarely at Hilditch.

With Katich, 35, still bunkered down from the storm surrounding him, manager Robert Joske claimed he had been flooded by well wishers and those outraged at Katich’s dumping from CA’s list of 25 contracted players.
